week 9 thing 23

As I worked through each project it never occured to me about copyright, until this video. Then thought of how someone can easily try to use without permission. All this networking and new technologies go back to training. Our students and teachers must be trained to understand that credit must be given where credit is due.Thank you for insight on . I was not aware that this existed. Go figure. But now i will share this information with others. Thank you for all the ideas, creativity, and training. I really enjoyed discovery learning. Hopefully, I can pass on this information to my colleagues. My sentence to describe this course is Self Absorption.

week 9 thhing 22

Ebooks...
is a site where you can join for $8.95 for use of books. The site offers a variety of older children's books that I think would be beneficial for chidren to hear the stories. I think as an ebook these books would be circulated more as compared to a traditional older print version.
http://www.friedbeef.com/best-places-to-get-free-books-the-ultimate-guide/
This site offers links to a variety of older and newer ebooks that would be more appealing to a child. Overall, I like the idea of an ebook. Sometimes a child wants to be read to and he doesn't get that at home. This is a great alternative.

Hopefully, I can begin my journey in speaking Spanish correctly.Okay I downloaded Juice... I began listening to my new podcast and ....I am learning new pick up lines in SPANISH.LOL! I guess this means I need a little more practice in finding podcast of value.

week 9 thing 20

YouTube is a nice tool to upload and share videos; however, you there is a lot of entertainment style of video included. I selected this video because of the subject matter. It is not suitable for elementary level but it does give a few interesting details that I find fascinating. I like how YouTube counts each videos hits. This is a great tool to find out which has the most traffic.

week 8 thing 19

http://www.librarything.com/ Librarything is a tool that can be used for elementary schools within a district for interlibrary loan possibliy. I was exploring options in uploading books and there is a way to upload collections.

However, I am having problems getting my link to books to display.

week 8 thing 18

Zoho.. I found this website to be very user friendly. I was able to create several test documents and email to myself. I also played around with the project creator and made a power point. Which is very nifty. I like this product because it has other templates to choose from and the clip art is already categorized. However, i had issues posting it to my blog. It could just be me since I can't locate the one of many passwords needed. Overall this tool is very useful. It allows users to work with documents/projects from anywhere(all you need is log in).

Week 7 Thing 17

I played in sandbox from Region 1. I made an account under my name. I think that wikis are a useful tool in the school for parents and teachers. I believe that wikis are not being used widely because teachers do not understand or value the resource.

week 7 thing 16

Wikis... I had heard of wikipedia but never knew the complete details. I am very impressed in how wikis can be used through different school committees and different collaborative projects within the school. Upper level schools could also have students input. I do see myself putting this to use. I browsed the sandbox of one of the wikis and found it extremely helpful in updating the wiki.

Thing 15 Week #6

Web 2.0
We are in the day and era of a library without walls. As an elementary librarian, I need to realize that all the library has to offer is not available in print. Our children and staff need to know how to use all the resources available to them. We need to be able to share the resources with our children and teach them along with staff how to use it.

Thing 14 week 6

technorati.... this is a creative a way of sorting through blogs. I am completely amazed by the sheer number of blogs out there. The tags help eliminate and get to the beef of what you want. When I searched using only tags the results were down to an available 78 blogs. All of which were on topic. What a neat tool. I did not claim my blog. I did go to the feature, but I am not sure that as the school year returns I will have time to blog regularly.

Thing 13 Week 6

Del.icio.us --- this is a remarkable tool that allows the use of bookmarking websites for use for multiple users. It is a tool that I would recommend; however, my district has selected to block this from any users within the district,UNFORTUNATELY. I think that if the person in charge of blocking sites could see the value it wouldn't be blocked.

Week 5 Thing #12

I am extremely excited about Rollyo. This tool would allow me to find different resources on different topics and keep them saved. I don't think that this would be a site that would be blocked by the district which is a plus.

Week 5 Thing#11

I ventured into sites that deal with health issues. I would normally use medlineplus.gov; however, I tried the first place site http://www.revolutionhealth.com/ . I liked that it was up to date but it did take you from one site to another. On a users end you had to go through multiple windows to use certain tools. for example. I like the check your symptoms in other sites. But in this site it was not simplified. I did try http://www.peertrainer.com/tip_of_the_day.aspx this site is a free weight loss motivator that I do enjoy.

Week 5 Thing #10

http://Image hosted @ bighugelabs.com

http://www.bighugelabs.com/flickr/ I used this image generator to create this picture of my son. I think this is a very innovative tool. With more practice I can utilize this in the library.

Week 4 Thing #9

Locate useful newsfeeds... I found that some of my favorite websites had newsfeeds. I have to be honest all this time I did not know what the orange icon was for..I hope I am or I mean I was not alone. Now I know and I found using the search tools given I will be able to help my teachers and students get up to date information without all the fuss. Thanks.

Week 2 Thing #4

Registering my blog. I was not sure that I had to blog about registration.

Sunday, July 26, 2009

Week 4 Thing #8

What do I like about RSS and newsreaders? I think that RSS keeps an individual up to date on specific topics. I think that this is useful to students to have accurate information that is not outdated. Libraries could use this to help patrons find information more efficiently. It would also help librarians to find updated or simplify searches for books or journals.

Week #3 Thing 7

Technology.... I am blown away by the advancements in technology. I was introduced to Face book the other day. I was surprised how it lends itself to keeping in touch with old friends and new ones. I believe that it incorporates the idea of email, instant messaging, photo sharing, advertising , and a whole mess of other tools all in one. It does however have its down side. One placed in the wrong hands..individuals can use this tool to slam or harass others.

Week #3 Thing 6

  • Creating trading cards is a innovative way of teaching vocabulary. However, with lower level students I can see how the lesson could be time consuming. Students could be partnered to give all students a chance to work or help those lacking in computer skills. I created this one for the purpose of teaching planets.

Week #3 Thing #5

It's Never too Early to Read!
My nephew learning a lifelong habit.
